July 21, MNb. In the second part cchernev the book pure chess content comes to the fore. Next year, in ninth grade, he hung his rook, and asked if he could take it back. Horowitzand Irving Chernev in brick-and-mortar bookstores here in the U. I received this as a present from my Parents in the early 70s and it remains a treasured item, easily the most entertaining chess book I have ever read.
When I grew up it was common to see books by Fred ReinfeldI. Razvan marked it as to-read Dec 17, A poignant and yet positive story.

The usual chess heroes of the author’s days come together to provide all sorts of entertainment. White a tipsy chess-playing computer ; Loacock a minor effort with traces of his best ; Milne, Hte Dunsany, Percival Wilde, etc.

I cannot recommend the book unless you’re a serious chess-player, very patient, or indeed both. The selection of games at the end of this book truly demonstrate the beauty of chrrnev.
Lists with This Book. As a related story, in eighth grade, playing the finals of the school tournament against the kid who had compxnion me this book, I hung my queen letting his pawn take it.
Obviously dated but contains many classic games.
