Jun 12, Hinatahiuga Atanasova rated it really liked it. Three stars is standisy for me, as something has to be truly awful to warrant only erastss or two. Her word-craft reveals rarely glimpsed, unacknowledged hierarchies of values that move her characters to perversions of logic that straight-jacket their choices and imaginations and which we might discover in our own lives in the real world, too. This relationship between two men who deply love each other but their lack of communication, jealousy, betrayal, and secrets are their downfall.

Well-developed characters, and such a great descriptive narrative of Standish, the prison and the secondary characters. The protagonists are flawed and surprisingly self-destructive, but are still redeeming nonetheless.

There’s plenty of interesting story and character development in Standish, but it seems to be compressed into too small a space, so that it sometimes moved too fast from one major plot point standdish the next.
