The thing is, for me experimental results don’t seem to give a coherent picture, as I tried to express a few years ago in this short article: Some of his earlier short stories feature strong elements of supernatural horror, while due to his more popular science fiction he is known within the genre for his tendency to deal with complex and highly technical material including inventive new physics and epistemology in an unapologetically thorough manner.

Egan does not hold back, nor does he dumb down any of his concepts to make them more accessible…Bravo! You could probably fill a novel with all the different facets of that kind of emotional solitude, but he wrapped it up in a few pages.

For those who are more interested in the story line, it slowed dramatically at that point, and I could have done with less of that.

Reading this book meant being bombarded by idea after idea, challenging my imagination as well as thoroughly taxing my scientific knowledge. The first is that while the ideas themselves are wonderfully imaginative, the focus really is on the effect on humans and humanity.

This anthology contains 18 stories I won’t go into detailwhich appeared between t Greg Egan is one of the many authors whose work s I haven’t explored yet. This is the premise of one of an interesting collection of stories by Greg Egan. I guess you can’t please everyone but I’d wager most people would be impressed by at least a few of this collection’s stories, albeit by different ones. I doubt this will impact many readers as it affected me.

Title: Axiomatic

The short story format suits Egan much better than the long-form novel, because it allows him to flesh out one or two incredibly provocative, disturbingly logical, frighteningly implied-by-the-trajectory-of-our-species ideas with some elegance. The writer runs with a loaded gun with I’ve had Greg Egan on my radar for a long time but aside from a lucky chance encounter with a novella, it still took me almost two decades to finally break down and read him!
