She is prompted to remember certain events that took place surrounding the family that lived at Riverton many years ago, by a film producer wanting to make a movie about a particularly shocking suicide that took place there. And why did Hannah think Grace knew shorthand, anyway?

I don’t recall her ever teaching Grace. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Will read more of Kate Morton, for sure. I dare say I wasn’t much of a wife, either. Why d I had such high hopes! The other main character in the book is the narrator Grace, a housemaid at Riverton. I have one question. Summary A young film maker is doing a bio-pic of the Hartfords and Riverton. Morton’s style reminds me of Daphne du Mauriereasy to read but powerful.

Grace rushes to find Emmeline, and takes her down to the lake to see if they can stop Hannah. A partir de la segunda mitad el ritmo se acrecienta. Riverton shares many of the themes of her later work, but with the narrator at a greater remove from the focus of the story, it tends to make her characterizations a bit flat. Grace will pine for a young man sent to war and will continue in her dedication to the family and to Hannah in particular, with whom she feels a special affinity.
I am interested–intrigued even–by the way time erases real lives, leaving only vague imprints.

Please help improve it by removing unnecessary details and making it more concise. I’d never intended to marry, you see. All set against the gorgeous backdrop of the English countryside, it’s a powerful and lx tale about fighting your desires and knowing when it’s time to give in. She’s never forgiven me.
They fall in love and begin an affair. I loved, loved it since I gave the book the highest rating that exists here, but my emotions are still roiling. Kate still feels a pang of longing each time she goes to the theatre and the house lights dim. View all 6 comments. Emmeline becomes very jealous, pulls a handgun from her jacket pocket and threatens to shoot herself.
I’m okay with vague, but there needs to be some clarity on what the ‘options’ are as opposed to just making a statement and never exploring the follow-thru aspects. There are complications during the birth and she dies. The House At Riverton has great characters and is basically just a great story which is extremely well told. Seriously, most of the main characters die as a result of her actions.
As Grace and Emmeline are about to head back to the house, Robbie emerges from the newly built summerhouse, carrying a suitcase. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm rivertton spoiler ]. So The House at Riverton seemed like a sure bet. Poor fellow; he was killed soon after in a road accident. The House of Riverton 10 42 Jun 29, It had mortoon passive drama than I would’ve wanted but it is a perfectly enjoyable read, Morton has a lot of talent and a beautiful style.

I was surprised at the end which makes a work that much dasa in my mind. Grace was our narrator, but I felt nothing for her.
I just katf online and noticed that reviewers disagree with me. The use of foreshadowing became a bit repetitive, giving the book the feel of a serial at times. She immediately feels a connection with them, Hannah in particular.
